The Handwriting on the Wall
Intro Is the “handwriting on the wall” for our world, our country or even for us individually? I’ll be back in a moment with the prophetic perspective on “The handwriting on the wall.” Message Hello, this is Cody Francis with Prophetic Perspectives. It has become a cliché that many use today without knowing where it comes from. What does it mean that the handwriting is on the wall? Like many aspects of our culture and language it comes to us straight from the Bible. The story of an ancient king who was interrupted from his drunken merrymaking by mysterious handwriting on the wall is still fraught with meaning for us today. Let us look at this ancient story to see if we can learn from the “Handwriting on the Wall.” But before turning to the Word of God, let us turn to its Author for understanding. Outline I. Belshazzar sad example man who knew – Dan. 5:22 A. Knew interpretation of the mysterious dream 1. Babylonian wise men utterly failed 2. Daniel of Hebrews gave dream & interpretation B. Knew three faithful witnesses for God 1. Faithful men rather die, break God’s Law 2. Stood alone to obey God 3. How God delivered them IN the furnace C. Knew Grandfather’s insanity 1. Refused to humble his heart 2. God revealed who the Ruler is D. Crossed the line of God’s mercy 1. Desecrated God’s holy things – Dan. 5:1-3 2. Enjoyed life! 3. Bloodless hand upon the wall – Dan. 5:5 4. Terror replaces mirth – Dan. 5:6 5. Daniel called – rehearses history 6. You knew all this! – Dan. 5:22 7. Weighed balances, found wanting! – Dan. 5:25-28 E. Belshazzar a lost man—committed unpardon! II. Do you know what you need to do? A. Has Holy Spirit been calling to you? Heard voice? B. Many here hearing that voice speaking 1. Keep Sabbath, overcome vice, baptized 2. Don’t follow tragic example of Belshazzar! 3. Lord what would you have me to do? – Acts 9:6
