Once Saved Always Saved? 

I.        Saved, but conditionally

A.     Abiding in Christ

1.      Christ offers salvation to all

2.      Abide in me – John 15:4

3.      Bear much fruit w/Him – John 15:5

4.      Does not abide, cast forth – John 15:6

5.      If we do not continue in His goodness, cut off – Rom. 11:21, 22

6.      A lost man can choose to be saved—praise the Lord!

B.     If… then

1.      1 John 1:7 – if we walk in the light

2.      John 8:51 – if a man keeps my sayings

3.      John 15:14 – you are my friends if you do whatever I have commanded you

4.      Heb. 3:14 – if we hold our confidence

5.      1 Cor. 15:1, 2 – saved, if you hold fast

6.      Heb. 2:3 – how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation

7.      Heb. 10:38 – if any man draws back, no confidence in him

8.      Rom. 8:13 – if you live after the flesh, you will die

9.      A saved man must keep the sayings, must hold fast, etc.

C.     Endure

1.      Matt. 24:13 – if endure to the end

2.      Rev. 3:5 – overcome, not blotted out

4.      A saved man must endure to the end and be an overcomer

D.     Conditional Promises

1.      All God’s promises are conditional

a.       Blessings – Deut. 28:1, 2; Curses – Deut. 28:15

b.      Ninevah

2.      Wicked can find life – Ez. 18:21

3.      Righteous’ good works forgotten, too – Ez. 18:24

4.      Unforgiving servant had his debts returned – Matt. 18:27, 35

5.      A saved man, by not abiding in Christ can choose to be lost

a.       If a lost man can choose to be saved

b.      Since God continues to give free choice, a saved man can also choose to be lost

c.       No one can pluck out of the Father’s hand – John 10:29

1)      Not the devil or anyone on earth can snatch us away

2)      We can choose to leave; not a jail where forced to stay

II.     Losing Salvation

A.     Galatians

1.      Christ set forth & crucified among – Gal. 3:1

2.      Afraid, lest labored in vain – Gal. 4:11

B.     Paul

1.      Running in a race – 1 Cor. 9:24-26

2.      Possible for Paul to be disqualified – 1 Cor. 9:27

3.      Communion service unworthily = damnation – 1 Cor. 11:27, 29, 30

C.     Demas

1.      Demas was a fellowlaborer – Philemon 23, 24

2.      Fellow workers names in the book of life – Phil. 4:3

3.      Demas forsook Paul for the world – 2 Tim. 4:10

4.      Love world, love Father not in – 1 John 2:15

D.     Saul

1.      Holy Spirit came upon Saul – 1 Sam. 10:6

2.      A new heart was given to Saul (conversion) – 1 Sam. 10:9, 10

3.      Didn’t keep commandments – 1 Sam. 13:13

4.      Kingdom torn from Saul – 1 Sam. 15:28

5.      Spirit of the Lord departed – 1 Sam. 16:14

6.      Lord did not answer Saul – 1 Sam. 28:6

7.      Saul killed himself w/o God – 1 Sam. 31:4-6; 1 Chron. 10:14

E.      No question, a saved man can choose to be lost

1.      We don’t have to make that choice, we can choose to abide in the vine

2.      Grow up into Christ in all things – Eph. 4:15

3.      Do not be deceived that you guaranteed ticket to paradise

a.       Promised ticket there – nail pierced hand stretched out to you

b.      Allow Him to continue to lift us from pit of sin & ruin

c.       Must continue in the faith you have accepted

4.      Allow God to finish good work in us – Phil. 1:6
