Sanctification in the Bible 

I.        What is sanctification?

A.     Cleansed from iniquity – 2 Tim. 2:19-21

B.     Be holy, for I am holy – 1 Peter 1:15, 16

II.     Is sanctification important?

A.     Sanctification is will of God – 1 Thes. 4:3

B.     Acceptable, must be sanctified by Holy Spirit – Rom. 15:16

C.     Inheritance among all those who are sanctified – Acts 20:32

D.     Sanctify wholly – 1 Thes. 5:23

III.   Sanctification is the often forgotten twin sister

A.     Married in Scripture – 1 Cor. 6:11

B.     A Two step process

1.      Born of water & spirit – John 3:5

2.      Forgive & cleanse – 1 John 1:9

3.      Mercy & grace to help – Hebrews 4:16

4.      Redeem & purify – Titus 2:14

C.     Justification alone is a spiritual stillbirth

1.      Born again – accept Jesus

2.      Die – refuse to continue surrendering to Jesus

IV.  How are we sanctified?

A.     Through the Word – John 17:17

B.     Washing of water through the Word – Eph. 5:26

C.     By Holy Spirit & belief of truth – 2 Thes. 2:13

D.     Surrender to Jesus – Heb. 2:11
